Approaches that impact in Sustainable Design

The new understanding of sustainability that it is no longer individual elements of a system, but it is a system property itself. The design is a fundamental function for innovation in many organizational units, such as business, governments, and local communities. It plays a huge role in its significance in different life aspects. This article will expound different methods to sustain, minimize waste and design better products for the present and future.

Methods of this article:

•    Cradle to Cradle Design (CTC)
•    Biomimicry Design (BM)

Cradle to Cradle Design (CTC)

CTC is a tool to regenerate and emphasis eco-effectiveness in the industry, to permit innovation and having the right mindset to achieve sustainability and thinking about future generations. There are two types for this approach:

-    Biological
-    Technological

With these types production, consumption and economic growth will continue in human society but will be more efficient by considering these aspects to impact the system. The products life-cycle will minimize and eliminate any harmful materials. Hence, will improve the quality of life.

Biomimetics (BM)

Utilize nature to set an ecological standard for judging the innovative products, observing and understanding the processes of nature and implement it to solve human problems. The ecological standards have been set since nature learned what works and what is appropriate before 3.8 billion years, it is wise enough to mentor us. In order to design based on the approach you have to mimic three things:

-    Forms of nature
-    Processes of nature
-    Ecosystem

Example of Biomimicry Design, observing and mimicking the form and processes of these creators and apply it on products!

In conclusion:

Following these methods can make a huge difference in sustainability, if we get used to these approaches and applying it to solve problems and improve the quality in life, to have a better present and future for the upcoming generations. That will have an impact on society, economy and environmentally.

Design for Sustainability

What is sustainability and How will you as a designer contribute to enabling, enhancing or experiencing it? Sustainability meets the needs of the present without affecting future generations. As a Product Designer, it is essential to put sustainability into consideration, it could be by using raw materials that can help to reduce pollution, enhancing the experiences of products by doing organic forms, user-friendly products and a vision for future to design based on it can maintain sustainable design. Definition of sustainability from my point of view:  Sustainability is how we can maintain and manage to protect the environment as much as possible, to improve the quilty of life and to boost the economy in the world.
